REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ah, now this is one of my favourite stories. They have a one-night stand. Her 'frenemy' pretends to be her. Then she realizes he is her boss. How long until he realizes he has the wrong girl?

There are umpteen versions of this and I will very happily watch them all, as each version has its own nuances and take.

Mr Thompson is made by the two leads Caitlin Olivia Carter and Kyle Maddox who are brilliant and so natural in their roles. It never feels like a performance, they just are.

I love Caitlin as Katie, first because the glasses she wears are the same as mine. I love it when she goes to kick the sleazy clients and James holds her back. I love the way she grows in confidence and by the end is almost luminous. I don't know how she does it but she gives that glow you get when you fall in love.

Please can we cast Kyle Maddox in lots more things as a male lead as he brings it all charisma, presence, an interesting undercurrent of threat (you believe he can protect his lady), and adorableness when James is in love. That face when he turns away in the hospital bed.

I also loved Maximilian Schulze as Richard. Again you see his heart break when Katie turns him down. But still turns up to look after her. And the fight with James felt more real as it was messy rather than perfectly choreographed

Jessica Lang is great as Anna, the ultimate frenemy. I do wish the script had explained a bit more why Anna is so convinced Katie looks down on her. But no matter as Jessica sells it as the girl who blames everyone else rather than taking ownership. And we all know people like that. Plus she looks wow in that blue dress

The one I worry for is Linda Kristine Kay Larsen who in an apparent moment of madness throws away her 10-year career to team up with Anna. Kristine gives her an interesting spin as I thought she might refuse the pills plot, and then radiates fury when she thinks Anna has betrayed her.

The whole show is a great version of this story and made by the naturalness of the 2 leads.

PS This is so nearly a 4 ⭐ because of the dreadful overuse of background music. I solved it by watching on mute. You don't need it. The actors are so good, let them do the work for you!

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

All the scenes when James is in the hospital are adorable from his loving looks at Katie to the mix of sulk and sadness when she turns him down. Then the kiss on the forehead when she is having the nightmare. The final episode is also brilliant. Thank you for that fireman's carry Kyle Maddox!

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

Anna really goes too far when she tampers with the supplements and has a wonderful evil look when she fake hugs Katie

😂 Comedy gold:

Katie doesn't want to make assumptions. Or assume James is a man. Cue comedy as we says James face, assertation he is a man and then worried check with his assistant. She got in your head!

🎺 Unsung hero:

Oh, Richard. You never stood a chance once James entered the picture. But such a green flag and gentleman hiding the fact you saved Katie and offering to bring up another's man child. I hope you get your happy ever after.
