REVIEW

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Did you know there are more astronauts in the world than master perfumers? A little fact I learned this week in the day job whilst editing a podcast interview with a master perfumer.

This is such a wonderful story. Now I have come to verticals from Chinese dramas so I know this storyline and some of the tropes, that the eyesight will come back, brides will be swapped, and the male lead will be made to wear silk pyjamas.

But this is such a good story with Shakespearean elements as the dad pits the 2 sons against each other and then has the dawning horror of what Josh has become.

I love that Tristan sees this rather than simply hating his brother. It adds so much to the story.

Monroe Cline is as brilliant as ever. Love that she plays both twins, and you always know which one she is. It's not with a big obvious hairdo, but instead just subtle clues like mannerisms and stance.

I think this is one of my favourite Nick Ritacco roles. You see the character unfurl, as he goes from being totally closed off to slowly letting Ashley in. Again it's subtle, it's in the body language, how he holds himself, and then the final smiles as he allows himself to be happy. He also totally brings us with him that Tristan is blind. It's never showy or overdone, but we know from how we walks and moves when he is blind and when the sight comes back. Just superb

Also love Chaz Lock as Josh. I am heartbroken for this character and that is because of the performance. A young man desperately trying to get his father's approval. And the betrayal at the end when he realises it will never be enough

I would also like to point out that Mark (Edmund Kwan) goes above and beyond sharing his house and putting in the most bedside vigil hours. Tristan pay him more so he can get a bigger apartment!

A few other things I loved

- blink and you miss it Adam Chisnall cameo as a shareholder
- the preppy look the stylists give Josh. He makes a bowtie sinister
- the amazing estate where Tristan lives

My only quibble is the horrible tartan gingham green jacket Tristan wears in the middle. That needs to go. If Nick Ritacco can't make it look good no one can

Such a gorgeous story

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:

It is magical watching a character who is really closed off slowly come to life. For me, the turning point is when Ashley goes to Tristan for a hug in the hospital and you can see him soften and start to thaw. I love it when the tables are turned in the power cut. And in the final few episodes he knows. Of course, he knows.

🦹🏼‍♂️ Top villain award:

Now initially we think it is Cora or Josh. But in the end, I am with Tristan. The problem is the dad who has spent years pitting his son against his son. I mean telling your son 'you've never done anything that satisfied me'.

😂 Comedy gold:

Falling in the bath! And Ashley trying to get past the 2 guards as the work launch. Plus the 2 rather random kidnappers at the end

🎺 Unsung hero:

Mark! I mean as well as doing all the faithful number 2 things he lets them stay in his house, and is this couple's biggest shipper. And he puts in the most hours at Tristan's bedside.
