REVIEW
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
One of the challenges when writing a romance, and especially a vertical, is coming up with complicated reasons to keep our leads apart.
And this one goes for it, also throwing mistaken identity into the mix.
But as with all good verts, the madness of the set up doesn't matter if the leads are great and go for it.
And our leads are so good. It's all about their relationship, and the brilliant writing means that it is a partnership where they TALK to each other.
Erin Orcutt gets to wear not 1 but 2 of the most stunning dresses I have seen in Verticals and is brilliant as conflicted Kate, struggling with what to tell Chase.
Ryan Vincent gets to set a new standard as green flag male lead Chase. Some of the lines he is given. And he is the master of shy eyes and a sweet smile.
The relationship is so good, the childhood backstory, the way Kate helps him, the don't leave me moment and then the partnership at the end when they turn detective duo.
Also always love a near-death love confession. Very well done here. Incredibly well done.
There is connection, tenderness, and chemistry. You can't take your eyes off them.
They are just perfect together that you almost don't need the baddies.
But we need them for the plot, so Shane Dorriz, Darrel Philips and Greta Donnelly get up to dastardly things and give our hero plenty of opportunities to step in and rescue Kate.
Props though to right-hand man Dylan who does all the heavy lifting, bankrupting families and setting up a romantic proposal.
The whole thing is super. Thank you to director Jeanine Fisher and everyone involved for a very enjoyable 90 minutes

💖 Top swoonworthy moment:
Some amazing lines:
“We’re partners...let me carry your joy, let me carry your burdens’
“We just agreed we do it together, the good and the bad.”
“Will you have my heart?”
Perfect delivery by Chase
🦹🏼♂️ Top villain award:
We have a few, the loathsome Ian, and Kate’s truly awful family. All as bad as each other really.
😂 Comedy gold:
Logan (Darrell Philips) face at the end when he gets arrested... very satisfying
🎺 Unsung hero:
Dylan, who I decided looks like Jimmy Olsen. And always comes prepared, so was ready with the rose petals at the end. Plus single-handedly tanks multiple family businesses. GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE
