Sophia Delucchi
What do you do in the Vertical Industry?
Actress; I get to dress up and play pretend!!!
How did you come across Vertical Dramas?
I auditioned for a couple early in the game, when I was first starting out acting in LA. I got the part and the rest is history- I had no idea what they were at first. I sort of figured it out while on set, along the way. Ha! I believe my first was in June of '23.
What is your favourite project you have worked on so far?
Ohhhh I've been so lucky, I love so many!
I have such a special place in my heart for my time as Mable Morris in 'Free My Heart'. Olivia Wang is such a beautifully fierce director and Hammer Geng executes storytelling through film with ease as a cinematographer. I absolutely adored that cast and crew, and working with Won the Lens is always an honor. I had the pleasure of working on "How To Train An Alpha" with them soon after.
What is the craziest thing you have found yourself doing while working on a vertical?
There are SO many moments where I get to do something ~insane~ and I have a "wow I can't believe this is my job" moment. Most recently, I was filming a fantasy series and had to literally actually physically howl... try THAT without giggling (unreleased: 'MoonFire').
Any funny stories you can share with us?
I feel so lucky that casting graces me with the opportunity to play these beautiful protagonists, but they ALSO occasionally give me the chance to step into the wicked villainess role. Some of the silliest moments I cherish on set were while filming the banquet scene during 'She's Not Your Fiancé'. Teaming up with Jeff Violette's character to destroy Casey Schryer and Nick Ritacco's characters’ relationship unlocked an unhinged energy.
Who is your unsung hero? Someone in the industry who should get more credit?
The hair and makeup teams are super heroes. When filming, we often jump all around the story and can sometimes film over 12+ scenes a day. This means we have to transform looks while honoring continuity over and over again.
While filming 'Fake It Till You Love Me', Eiko Watanabe once had to switch me back and forth from nerdy Caroline (wig and glasses) to pretty Caroline (blowout and glam) 4 times in one day!
What do you wish more people knew about verticals?
Definitely excited for expansion in storylines & genre. This is just the beginning of vertical filmmaking, so i'm looking forward to growth in many aspects.
What developments would you like to see in the industry in the year ahead?
I’d love to see the storytelling level up—stronger scripts, more grounded dialogue, just better writing across the board. A lot of vertical content right now leans on the same tropes—love triangles, scandals, over-the-top drama—and sure, that stuff can be fun, but there’s so much more we could be doing.
I think the format is ready for more complexity—more nuance, different genres, different types of relationships. There’s this huge opportunity to surprise people with what vertical storytelling can be, and I hope more creators start to lean into that.
What are you most proud of?
It truly felt like a Cinderella story!! I had taken a leap of faith and spontaneously quit my restaurant job. The next morning I woke up to an alert from my agent asking me to hop on a last minute audition. A few hours later I got notice I had booked the job and would be spending the next 12 days on set filming my first vertical. I had nooooo knowledge of the "vertical world" we now know and love, so I was utterly confused when I saw the show was being filmed vertically. All I knew was I was overjoyed to be working on set & telling a story... still am!
