8 Top Tips for Saving Money when Watching Vertical Dramas
Watching Vertical Dramas can be an expensive habit, so here are some of my top tips to help you out!
1 | Go For Weekly / Monthly Subscriptions Rather Than Coin Bundles
It is really hard to work out how many episodes you will get access to with a coin bundle - because of course all the apps charge different amounts of coins per episode. I have been stung too many times, and the coin bundle isn’t even enough to finish one series. Save yourself the money. My rule of thumb is only go for weekly/monthly/annual subscriptions where you unlock all the series.
2 | Keep And Eye On Your App Subscription Renewals
If you are doing this make sure that you note down when the subscription with renew. Spreadsheet, diary, phone alarm, you need something. Otherwise, you can get a rather unpleasant surprise when the app renews automatically and that money disappears out of your account. I go straight into the App Store and cancel the renewal immediately.
3 | Look Out For Seasonal Deals
There are usually good offers around each ‘holiday’ - I saw lots around Black Friday, Christmas, and New Year. These offers are usually for a monthly subscription where you unlock all the series for a discounted rate. If you know there are multiple dramas you want to watch on the app, well worth looking out for.or/
4 | Keep An Eye On Your Favourite Verticals Stars Social Media
Sometimes some of the big stars have codes for free coins that they share with their followers when they have a big new series coming out.
5 | Daily Logins And Ad Watching Is Worth It
You need patience but you can watch the whole series this way. I tend to do it when cooking dinner. Rather than the aimless internet doom scrolling I cycle through the apps, do the daily check-ins, and then ‘watch’ the ads whilst listening to a podcast or something else. Do keep an eye on how long the apps will let you build up your credits. Some are incredibly annoying and wipe whatever you have after a week.
6 | If You Love An App Look At Getting An Annual Subscription
The only app I have an annual subscription to at the moment is Reelshort. This made sense to me as I know I will on average watch and really enjoy 50-75% of the content they produce. And the crew at Reelshort are machines, at the time of writing they are releasing 4 new verticals a week. When I compared the monthly and annual subscriptions it was a no-brainer to go for the annual fee.
7| Ask For Google Play / App Store Gift Cards
We have a super rule in my family, you are actually asked for what you want for your birthday / Christmas rather than being bought bath bombs, candles, chocolates, etc. I’m not proud. I asked for a Google Play Gift Card to watch more verticals, as that is what brings me joy!
8 | If All Else Fails…
We are in vert land. Perhaps we just need to find that hidden billionaire CEO. Or win the lottery. Good luck!
